Methodology sources
Source register for the planned Phase 2 model · Reviewed 7 August 2026
This page lists the primary institutions and materials the scoring specification is allowed to cite. It does not turn every publication by an institution into a Shrayk classification. Each additive entry must link to the specific assessment used, its date, scope, and uncertainty before that entry can ship.
Nutritional computation
- Santé publique France — Nutri-Score overview and technical documents. This is the official source for the system and its calculators. Santé publique France states that the algorithm was updated and introduced progressively in France from March 2025.
- Scientific and technical Q&A (official PDF). Historical technical context for the original computation referenced by the current Shrayk specification.
The planned Shrayk model currently names the original computation. Because the official method has evolved, that choice requires documented scientific and legal review before implementation. Shrayk will display neither Nutri-Score letters nor its logo.
Food-additive risk assessment
- EFSA — Food additives topic. EFSA explains its evaluation and re-evaluation work, including chemical characteristics, toxicity, dietary exposure, acceptable daily intake, and data gaps.
- EFSA Panel on Food Additives and Flavourings. The panel assesses new additives, new uses, and authorised-additive re-evaluations.
- EFSA — OpenFoodTox chemical hazards database. Structured summaries link substances to EFSA assessments, reference points, and health-based guidance values.
- ANSES — food physical-chemical risk opinions. Official expert opinions and reports, including assessments relevant to particular additives and contaminants.
Carcinogenic hazard
- IARC Monographs — agents classified. The official classifications and links to monographs.
IARC evaluates hazard: whether an agent can cause cancer under some circumstances. A group does not state the risk from a particular product, dose, frequency, or route. Shrayk must never translate an IARC group alone into “this product causes cancer.”
Product data
- Open Food Facts supplies the current barcode lookup and community product record under ODbL. It is a data source, not a scientific authority for additive risk classification.
- USDA FoodData Central is a planned US fallback and is not used in the current release.
Source acceptance rules
Before a risk entry is published, the reference record must include the exact substance/identifier, assessment body, document URL, publication or review date, evaluated use and exposure context, conclusion, uncertainty or data gap, Shrayk tier rationale, reviewer, refDataVersion, and next review date.
News coverage, brand claims, social posts, and unsourced databases cannot establish a tier. Secondary literature may help locate a primary assessment but cannot replace it.
